The client came to us with a brief to refurbish the whole house sensitively to the age of the property, with a specific focus on making the small rabbit warren of rooms at lower ground floor level brighter and more useable. An existing half width rear extension was re-built in yellow stock brick to match the existing house and the remaining space adjacent was infilled with a glass conservatory forming an open plan kitchen and dining room. The potential heat problem from the south facing aspect of the new glazed extension was tempered by using a self cleaning, solar control glass. The upper floors were carefully updated with new materials and finishes sympathetic to the original fireplaces and joinery.
