LPA were appointed to this project to form a new house out of an existing former coach house building adjoining an end of terrace town house in the De Beauvoir Town Conservation area. The resulting design maximised the space of the stable building’s envelope by removing the existing floor plate and replacing with two new levels to provide accommodation over three floors instead of two. A new staircase is brought down the centre of the building, glazed over on the top floor to bring natural light through the heart of the house’s plan. To the rear, the property has been extended and a double height space formed under a large lean-to glazed roof. This combined with new floor to ceiling glass doors to the rear gives the compact house openness and connection with the sky and rear garden.
