LPA were appointed to design a single storey pavilion structure, extending the existing Victorian house, enabling better interaction with the garden. The extension is clad in black painted western red cedar and is fitted with dark framed powder coated aluminium bi-folding doors on two of its elevations. The aim was to contrast the contemporary treatment of the materiality of the extension with the original London stock brick house in order to clearly distinguish the new elements from the old. The ceramic tiled floor covering extends from within the kitchen area out onto a new patio, enabling the enlargement of the kitchen area by opening the doors. Elsewhere, our brief was to upgrade the existing property, with a new highly efficient condensing boiler being installed, new bathrooms, along with new joinery in the bedrooms and reception rooms.
