St Paul's Road, Islington

Planning permission has been obtained for the redevelopment of a key corner site in Islington on the junction of Balls Pond Road and Essex Road. The proposal involves the demolition of the current buildings on the site and the construction of apartments and retail space on the corner building and two new houses to the rear. The site is a complex mix of architecture including a John Barry church on one opposing corner and a much larger 1960's office building on the other. It is hoped that by taking on board the views of the Local Planning Authority, local residents and conservation groups, a successful permission will be achieved for what should be a land mark building in the local area. The new scheme aims to reflect the proportions and massing of the original building and surrounding buildings, whilst employing modern detailing and materials to avoid any risk of creating a pastiche of styles.
